The Montañas de Fuego (Fire Mountains) or Timanfaya form part of a broad area affected by volcanic eruptions that struck Lanzarote between 1730 and 1736, with subsequents eruptions in 1824. This long eruption preocess, one of the most significant and spectacular of the historic volcanism on Earth, drastically changed the morphology of the Island, leaving a quarter of it almost completely buried under a thick layer of lava and ash.

The camel ride upon the Volcano is undoubtedly one of the most classic pictures of Lanzarote, combining the exoticism of the transport with the spectacular landscape.

Its three-star Restaurant "El Diablo" opens from 12:00 hours to 15:30 hours every day and has the special feature that the products are cooked with the heat of the Volcano itself.

There is also a Gift Shop whre you can buy local products and souvenirs.

This region of Timanfaya takes its name from Hilario, a local legendary character who lived here like a hermit with the only company of his female camel after the war in the Philippines. Hilario planted a fig tree that took roots but never gave any fruit because "the flower could not feed from the flame."

Inside the Restaurant "El Diablo" (The Devil) there is a unique work of art that consists of an artificial glazed stone wall containing camel bones and a fig tree on the black surface. It is a tribute to Hilario´s Legend.
