Tias
In the centre-south of Lanzarote, Tías is a municipality which lies facing out over the sea and whose coastline includes the island's largest tourist zone, which started outas the small fishing town of Puerto del Carmen and grew up stedily on the basis of the succession of marvellous beaches interspersed between small rock outcrops, to the point where it finally had a first-ratetourist infrastructure along what is known as the Costa Turística de Tías.
To the interior of Tías is the Valle de la Geria, a valley formed on volcanic ash which has been used for vine cultivation, by digging a number of holes to prtect the plantations from the winds and keep the soil at optimum humidity. conditions of the land, a number of wine cellars - bogegas - are being set up to demonstrate the good artisian vinification and quality of Lanzarote wines.
The great concern which this municipality has always shown for culture and for artistic manifestations and expressions is reflected in the number of sociocultural centres to be found - the Municipal Theatre, the Cultural Centre, or the Civic and Services Centre "El Fondeadero" - which in addition to showing great harmony between its popular architecture and its surroundings, offer some of the island's most interesting cultural and social options.
