The Peruvian writer Mario Vargas
Llosa has confessed in a private visit to Lanzarote, the island is "one of the
most original landscapes" has known.
The author of 'The Time of the
Hero, "among others, visited during his stay the headquarters of the César
Manrique Foundation, accompanied by his wife, writer Patricia Llosa and Juan
Cruz, according to this institution in a statement.
The César Manrique Fundation was shown by the
foundation's activities director, Fernando Gómez Aguilera, also toured the
island to the writer to show the work of Cesar Manrique, in which he was
concerned.
Vargas Llosa, who did not know
Lanzarote, Timanfaya also visited the Cactus Garden, Jameos del Agua and the Castle
of San Jose. Impressed by the contributions of
the landscape painter, sculptor, architect and artist Cesar Manrique and the
nature of the island,
said the emotional impact had caused the uniqueness of Lanzarote. "One of the most original landscapes I have ever known" in his own words.
The author has just presented his latest book 'Swords and utopias', a collection of political writings, selected by Carlos Granada. Through essays and articles that Vargas Llosa has been devoted to Latin America, an overview of the intellectual and political career of the author, from its initial support to the revolution of Fidel Castro to the well-known liberal positions advocated today.
A journey that, in the opinion of the writer, becomes a historical review of the ills that have plagued Latin America, from authoritarianism, populism and the revolutionary impulse, highlighting the achievements in the fields of literature and art.
